Evan Bayh: "I am a complete idiot"

Evan Bayh is terribly worried about the deficit, you see, which is why he can imagine helping health care reform die in the Senate.

This is the man whose support for Bush's $1.5 trillion Iraq adventure has never wavered. He loves giving additional estate tax breaks to super-wealthy families, even at the expense of charitable giving.

He is also presumably able to look up the fact that a public health insurance option, especially a more robust version of same, will help reduce the deficit in years to come.

Either he is catastrophically ignorant of the public policy issues on which he votes, or he assumes all of us are.
